Areti Bank participated in the UNEP FI 2023 North America Regional Roundtable

To discuss the current state and define the future of sustainable finance in the North American region, Areti Bank participated in the North America Regional Roundtable 2023 held in Toronto, Canada, on March 1 and 2.

The event brought together members of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) and various banking institutions involved in sustainable finance, regulators, civil society, universities and policy makers.

The North America 2023 Regional Roundtable was held as part of the “Global ExChange Destination Net-Zero” event to welcome more than 1,000 participants from various companies and financial institutions that are making efforts to accelerate the achievement of the Net-Zero goal for the decarbonization of the planet.

On this occasion, leaders, experts and professionals in sustainable finance met to discuss the current legal framework, ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance), the alignment of financial flows with climate and biodiversity, as well as the consideration of human rights in finance.

Yasmina Vucina, Chief Sustainability Officer & SVP Strategic Partnerships de Areti Bank, participated in the panel “Implementation of sustainable practices in the banking sector” together with two other representatives from Amalgamated Bank and the National Bank of Canada.

In this panel, Yasmina explained how Areti implements the Principles of Responsible Banking in its daily operations to carry out its investment and credit strategies. She also explained that Areti includes the 6 Principles of Responsible Banking in its lending and investment criteria to create an impact in the environment and in society.

Areti’s business model works by transforming the capital that our clients and investors have entrusted to us, in 4 macro-areas: Sustainable Energy, Green Consumption, Clean Production and Fair Living, which encompass the 17 SDGs.

Areti uses digital technology to be more inclusive, to reach out to unbanked sectors and also to be able to access clients in all parts of the world.  This, within the framework of the Health and Financial Inclusion Commitment, signed by Areti in January 2023.

Areti’s participation in the “North America Regional Roundtable 2023” of UNEP FI, was important to show the scope and contribution of the bank to the achievement of important sustainability goals, under the figure of signatory of the Responsible Banking Program of UNEP FI.
