Proper waste management could prevent a 70% increase in waste by 2050

A significant amount of waste is produced worldwide, and there is no sign of it dissipating. Global solid waste production is expected to increase by about 70% metric tons by 2050, according to a World Bank report. Waste management aims to reduce the impact of waste on the environment by minimizing the amount of waste produced, promoting the recycling and reuse of materials, as well as the proper disposal of hazardous waste. Effective waste management requires recycling centers, landfills and waste-to-energy plants, such as biorefineries. Waste management is an important issue that affects both the present and the future of the planet. We must be responsible for the waste we produce and strive to reduce, reuse and recycle as much as we can. What strategies can we apply? Recycling and reuse: Reuse objects as much as possible and recycle materials such as plastic, glass and paper so that they can be reused instead of being thrown away. Compost: Instead of throwing away organic waste, such as food, it can be used as compost. In this way, food that was previously going to be thrown away can be used as soil. Incineration: Consists of burning waste at a very high temperature to reduce its volume and produce energy that can be used for thermal energy. Energy recovery: By using waste as fuel to produce energy or heat, the need to produce fossil fuels is reduced.
